Choosing the right bed

Can you recommend me a bed?

Yes! Our Bed Finder Quiz matches you to the right bed in about 30 seconds, based on age, room size and the features you need.

You’ll also receive a £20 discount code when you complete it. If you’d rather just ask a human, email support@millieandjones.co.uk or call us and we’ll happily point you in the right direction.

Will this bed fit my room?

Every product page has a Dimensions section with the full measurements - height, width and length - including the extra space needed for things like a ladder or an extended sofa bed. We’d always recommend measuring your space (including ceiling height for high sleepers and bunks) before ordering.

If you’re unsure whether a bed will work in your room, send us your room measurements at support@millieandjones.co.uk and we’ll help you check before you buy.

What’s the difference between a mid sleeper, high sleeper and cabin bed?
  • Mid sleeper: a raised single bed with usable space underneath for storage, a desk or a play area - lower than a high sleeper, suitable from 6+.
  • High sleeper: raised higher again, creating room for a full desk, a sofa bed or extra storage below. A great space-saver for older children and teens (6+ for the raised sleeping area).
  • Cabin bed: a bed with built-in storage (drawers, shelves, sometimes a pull-out desk) integrated into the frame - ideal for smaller rooms where you want sleeping and storage in one.

Still not sure which suits your space? Try the Bed Finder Quiz or just ask us.

What ages are your beds suitable for?
  • Toddler beds: 18 months - 4 years
  • Mid sleepers & cabin beds: 6+ years
  • Bunk beds & high sleepers: top bunk / raised sleeping area for 6+ years only
  • Standard beds: suitable for older children, teens & adults

For safety, we don’t recommend high sleepers or the top bunk of a bunk bed for children under 6.

Are your beds suitable for adults?

Yes - many are, especially our ottoman beds, divans, guest beds, day beds and storage beds, which are all perfect for adults and guest rooms as well as teens. Single, small double and double sizes are widely used in spare rooms and by adults in smaller spaces.

If you’re unsure whether a particular bed suits your needs, just reach out and we’ll advise.

Mattresses

What size and depth of mattress do I need?

The correct mattress size is listed on every bed’s product page. For raised beds, mattress depth matters for safety:

  • Bunk beds / high sleepers: maximum 15cm deep
  • Mid sleepers / cabin beds: maximum 15cm deep

This keeps the mattress sitting safely below the guard rails. You can add a correctly-sized mattress to most beds at checkout, or bring your own - just check it matches the size and depth shown.

What is a continental mattress?

A continental mattress is a slightly longer version of a standard UK mattress - usually about 10cm longer - and is commonly used on premium European and Scandinavian imported bed frames.

At Millie & Jones we make it easy by offering the correct continental size for any bed that needs one. That said, many customers simply use a standard UK mattress, as the 10cm difference is minimal and the small gap sits at the foot end where it’s barely noticeable. For bedding, the only real difference is the fitted sheet, and most UK single, double or small double sheets still fit comfortably.

In short: it’s just slightly longer, and nothing to worry about either way.

Delivery & timing

How long will my order take to arrive?

Delivery times vary from bed to bed, so the estimate shown on each product page is always the best guide. As a general rule:

  • Beds marked “Next Day Delivery”: order before midday on a working day and your bed will arrive the next working day.
  • Most other beds: arrive within roughly a few working days to two to three weeks, depending on the item - the specific delivery window is shown on each product page.
  • A small number of ranges are made to order especially for you and can take a little longer; again, the estimate is shown on the product page.

Whichever you order, you’ll get a dispatch confirmation and tracking as soon as it’s on its way, and many beds let you choose or be offered a delivery date. If you need a bed by a specific date, just ask us before you order and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s achievable.

What happens after I place my order?

We confirm availability, process your payment, and prepare your order for dispatch. You’ll receive a dispatch confirmation and tracking as soon as your order is on its way.

When will I receive my order confirmation?

You’ll receive an order confirmation email as soon as your purchase is processed - this confirms we’ve received your order and started preparing it. (If it’s not in your inbox within a few minutes, please check your spam/junk folder.)

Can I choose a delivery date?

On many of our beds - particularly those marked Next Day Delivery and other in-stock items - yes: you can select your preferred delivery date at cart level or at checkout, including the next working day (order before midday). You can also pick a date further ahead if you’d rather receive it later.

On beds with a longer delivery window, a date picker isn’t shown - instead we’ll contact you to arrange a delivery date once your order is ready.

Will I be notified before delivery?

Yes. You’ll receive:

  • A dispatch confirmation
  • Real-time tracking updates via SMS or email
  • A 3-hour delivery window
  • A 60-minute courtesy call before arrival (on selected services)

Can I delay delivery or pre-order for later?

Yes - we can hold your order for up to 4 months. Choose a later delivery date at checkout (available up to 4 months ahead on eligible and pre-order beds), or place your order as normal and leave a note at checkout - or email us straight after - with your preferred timing, and we’ll book a date that suits.

Where do you deliver?

We currently deliver to mainland UK only. We’re unable to deliver to Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, the Scottish Islands or the Scilly Isles.

We can deliver to a UK mainland freight forwarder if you’d like to arrange onward shipping yourself - contact us for box dimensions.

My order is taking longer than I expected - where is it?

First, please check your order confirmation email for further details you may have missed. Some of our beds have a longer delivery window (shown on the product page), so if you’re still within that window it’s normal not have had an update yet.

If it’s been longer than the window shown on the product page, email us at support@millieandjones.co.uk with your order number and we’ll chase it with the supplier and get you a clear update as quickly as we can.

Payment & finance

How can I pay?

We accept all major debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro), plus PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. You can also spread the cost with Klarna or Clearpay at checkout.

Can I spread the cost? (Klarna & Clearpay)

Yes. At checkout you can choose Klarna or Clearpay to split your order into interest-free instalments rather than paying all at once - handy for larger items like beds. You’ll see the available options and the full payment schedule before you confirm.

Approval is subject to the provider’s eligibility checks, and the complete terms are shown by Klarna or Clearpay during checkout.

Assembly

Do your beds come assembled?

Most beds arrive flat-packed for safe delivery and require assembly - full instructions are included. (Some items can be delivered and assembled for you - see below.)

Do you offer an assembly service?

On eligible beds: you can add our assembly service at checkout. Your bed is delivered to a room of your choice and built by the manufacturer’s expert team on the day of delivery, with the packaging taken away.

On all other beds: we’ve partnered with TaskRabbit so you can arrange professional assembly at a time that suits you, after your delivery has arrived. Here’s how:

  1. Once your bed has been delivered, click the link in your confirmation email (or below).
  2. Enter your full postcode to see available Taskers in your area.
  3. Choose your preferred Tasker based on reviews, availability and budget.
  4. Book your assembly directly through TaskRabbit - prices start from less than £20/hour.

🔗 Book Assembly with TaskRabbit

Please don’t book assembly or make time-sensitive arrangements until your items have arrived in full and in satisfactory condition.

How long does it take to assemble a bed?
  • Toddler / single beds: 30-60 minutes
  • Mid sleepers / cabin beds: 1-2 hours
  • Bunk beds / high sleepers: 2-3 hours
  • Double / king beds: 1-2 hours

We recommend two people for safety and ease.

Cancellations, returns & problems

Can I cancel my order?

Yes. If your order hasn’t been dispatched yet, contact us as soon as you can at support@millieandjones.co.uk with your order number and we’ll cancel it and arrange a full refund. Because some beds are made to order or dispatched quickly, please get in touch as early as possible. If your order has already been dispatched, it’s covered by our returns policy below.

Can I return my order if I change my mind?

Yes - you can return your order within 14 days, provided it’s unassembled and in its original packaging. Please note that courier collection fees may apply, unless the item is faulty.

For mattresses, we’re unable to accept returns once the packaging has been opened, in line with health and hygiene regulations (unless the item is faulty).

Can I return a bed after it’s been assembled?

Change-of-mind returns aren’t possible once a bed has been assembled. However, if there’s a confirmed manufacturing fault, it’s still covered - see below.

What if my order arrives damaged, faulty, or with missing parts?

We’ll put it right - and it’s usually quick and straightforward. Please contact us as soon as you can, ideally within 48 hours of delivery, at support@millieandjones.co.uk with your order number and a few photos or a short video of the issue.

In most cases the fastest fix is a free replacement part, which we’ll arrange directly with the supplier. Where a part isn’t the right solution, we’ll sort a repair, replacement or refund as appropriate. Damaged and faulty items are covered by your statutory rights and, where applicable, the manufacturer’s guarantee - so you’re protected either way.
