Kids Beds with Storage: Finding the Perfect Bed for Your Child's Room
If you're looking to maximise space and cut down on clutter in your child's bedroom, a kids single bed with storage is the perfect solution. From cabin beds and mid sleeper beds to high sleeper beds, bunk beds and trundle beds, the right setup can add plenty of storage, free up floor space and bring structure to your little one's bedroom with stylish, practical storage options.
Kids storage beds do two jobs in one footprint. Instead of a bed, a chest of drawers and a toy box, one bed frame holds the lot, which in a smaller bedroom is the difference between cramped and space to play.
Smart Storage Meets Style
Our full range of children's storage beds is designed for real homes and real kids. Whether you're furnishing a small room, upgrading from a cot bed or toddler bed, or trying to create a tidy, functional child's room, these space-saving solutions make all the difference.
- Cabin beds come in high, mid and low styles, with built-in storage like spacious drawers, cupboards or under-bed drawers.
- Many storage beds include an integrated desk, perfect for homework, drawing or gaming. See our kids beds with desks.
- Add-ons like a pull-out desk or built-in drawers make the bed more than just a place to sleep. It's a complete solution for sleep, play and study, in a stylish space your child loves.
Types of Kids Beds with Storage
Every family needs to store different things, so it's worth knowing how the different kids storage beds work before you choose.
Cabin Beds with Storage
Cabin beds sit a little higher than standard single beds, which leaves room for built-in storage like drawers, cupboards and shelves in the bed frame. They're one of the most versatile storage kids beds, because the storage is at a height children can reach themselves. Low cabin beds suit younger children; taller cabin beds are raised beds and follow the same age guidance as mid sleepers. More in our guide to what a cabin bed is.
Mid Sleepers with Storage
A mid sleeper raises the sleeping area just enough to create usable space underneath, the ideal spot for extra storage, a desk or shelving to help keep your child's bedroom organised and stylish.
High Sleepers with Storage
High sleeper beds take it up a level, literally. Use the vertical space for a gaming setup, a built-in desk, a wardrobe, or a chill-out zone with a sofa bed. These high beds are great for older children and smaller rooms where every inch matters, because the whole floor area under the sleeping area becomes storage.
See all our high sleepers with storage and beds with wardrobes.
High sleepers and mid sleepers are not suitable for children under 6, because of the risk of falls. BS EN 747 is the British standard for raised beds, and where a manufacturer has confirmed a bed's certification, it's stated on each individual product page.
Bunk Beds with Storage
For siblings, shared rooms or sleepovers, bunk beds with storage are a space-saving dream. Choose from models with integrated storage, shelves or under-bed drawers to store toys, books and clothes, so two children can share one room without sharing the mess.
For three children, triple bunk beds put a double on the bottom and a single on top, like the Atlas Solid Pine Detachable Triple Bunk Bed or the Burford Family Bunk Bed with Double Bottom, which adds a pull-out trundle too. The top bunk of any bunk bed is for children aged 6 and over. See all our bunk beds with storage.
Add a trundle bed underneath for extra sleeping space, perfect for guests or late-night movie marathons. A pull-out trundle gives you another sleeping surface when needed, then slides away to save floor space. When nobody's staying, it's a handy place to store spare bedding and pillows. See our beds with a trundle, or a captain's bed like the Brancaster Captains Guest Bed with Trundle & Storage, which has drawers and a pull-out trundle in one, a clever space-saving choice.
Single Beds with Storage
If your child isn't ready for a raised bed, a children's single bed with storage is a clean, efficient solution, and it's the natural next step up from a cot bed or toddler bed. Many of our single beds with storage come with built-in drawers, ideal to store toys, cuddly toys, bedding or seasonal clothes, and they're easy for little ones to open for everyday items.
Choosing the right mattress size matters too, so the storage bed works properly. Our kids' bed size guide covers every size.
Whether you're furnishing a girl's or boy's bedroom, a shared room or a guest room, a children's single bed in a fresh white shade or warm solid pine wood finish complements any bedroom décor. More in our guide to why single beds with storage are ideal for kids' bedrooms and our best kids' beds with storage under £400.
Ottoman Beds
Ottoman beds are a practical option, with a gas-lift mechanism that raises the whole base to reveal hidden storage beneath the mattress. They offer ample space for bulky things like spare duvets and suitcases. Young children shouldn't operate the lift unsupervised.
Small Double and Double Beds with Storage
For older children and teenagers, a small double or double storage bed gives more room to sleep without losing the storage. A small double at 120 x 190cm suits most teenage bedrooms, while a double at 135 x 190cm suits larger rooms.

How to Choose the Right Storage Bed
The best kids beds with storage match what your child needs to store and the space you have.
Measure the Room
Measure the floor, the ceiling and the space in front of the bed. Under-bed drawers need 40 to 60cm of clear floor to open fully, and a pull-out trundle needs about a metre. For high sleepers, allow a ceiling height of at least 2.3m. In a smaller bedroom, a raised bed usually gives you the most extra space, since the storage goes underneath rather than beside the bed.
Match the Storage to the Clutter
Think about what's on the floor now, then choose storage options that target it:
- Toys, games and cuddly toys: deep under-bed drawers or a cabin bed
- Clothes: drawers for everyday things, a wardrobe unit for hanging
- Books and bedtime things: shelves built into the bed frame
- Bulky bedding and out-of-season clothes: an ottoman or a trundle drawer
Think About Age
For little ones moving up from a cot or toddler bed, a floor-level single bed with drawers is the safest choice. From 6, mid sleepers, cabin beds and bunk beds open up. For older children and teenagers, a high sleeper with a wardrobe, or a small double with drawers, keeps growing with them.
Whatever their age, look for a sturdy frame, wooden slats and standard mattress sizes, so replacements are easy to find. Many of our children's beds are made from solid pine wood, and neutral finishes like white, grey and natural pine work as well at 14 as they do at 6. More in solid pine vs MDF.
Mattresses for Storage Beds
- Mattress size: most kids storage beds take a standard UK single mattress at 90 x 190cm, but some take a continental single at 90 x 200cm, a small double or a shorty. The size is on each individual product page.
- Mattress depth: on raised beds, keep the mattress no deeper than 15 to 16cm so the guard rails work properly. Our PocketRest 15cm, MemoryDream 15cm and ComfortSleep 15cm are made for exactly this.
- Trundle mattress: a trundle needs a shallower mattress, like our TrundleEase 10, so it slides back underneath.
- Floor-level beds: a standard single bed with drawers can take a deeper mattress, like the MemoryTeen 18cm for older children.

Why Kids (and Parents) Love Storage Beds
- Keeps the room tidy: say goodbye to piles of toys and clothes, with ample storage space for everything.
- Encourages independence: a well-organised storage bed encourages kids to put their own toys away.
- Fits every lifestyle: from little ones to tweens and teens, there's a design for every age and stage, and one that can keep suiting them as they grow.
- Strong and durable: many of our children's beds with storage are made from solid pine, with wooden slats and a sturdy frame built to last.
- Safety first: features like guard rails on the top bunk help keep children safe and give you peace of mind. Full detail on our safety policy page.

Kids Beds with Storage: Common Questions
What's the best storage bed for a small room?
A high sleeper or mid sleeper gives you the most storage for the floor space, since everything goes underneath. For under-6s, single beds with drawers or a trundle are the better choice.
Drawers or ottoman?
Drawers suit the everyday things kids store most, like clothes and toys; an ottoman suits bulky items you don't need daily, like spare bedding and winter clothes.
What age are raised storage beds suitable for?
High sleepers, mid sleepers and the top bunk of bunk beds are for children aged 6 and over. Floor-level storage beds suit any age.
How much space do under-bed drawers need?
Allow 40 to 60cm of clear floor beside the bed so the drawers can open fully.
Can a bed have drawers and a trundle?
Yes. A captain's bed like the Brancaster has both, so it can store toys and still host sleepovers.
Do storage beds come in double sizes?
Yes. Our range includes small double and double storage beds, from drawer beds to ottoman beds, for teenagers and guest rooms.
Do they come assembled?
They arrive flat-packed with full instructions, or our room-of-choice assembly service can build it for you.
