Kensington High Sleeper with Desk & Wardrobe

The Kensington is a high sleeper built around something most raised beds leave out: a proper built-in wardrobe. It sits beneath the sleeping platform, with a full hanging rail and internal shelving behind a single door, so clothes, shoes and school uniform have a real home instead of ending up on the floor. Finished in grey and oak-effect, it suits a younger child's room or a teenager's. It's for children aged 6 and over, made in France, and backed by our 5-year guarantee.

There's 145cm between the floor and the bottom of the bed, and that's what makes room for everything underneath. The wardrobe's hanging rail is 87.5cm long. The desk has a 130cm by 57cm top at 74cm high, with a drawer for stationery and odds and ends, and a shelving unit above it keeps books, files and favourite things close by. Up top, a 160cm bedside shelf runs the length of the sleeping area for a lamp, a phone or a bedtime read, so there's no need for a bedside table.

Wide, deep-tread ladder steps make climbing in and out easy and secure. The Kensington arrives in 5 flat-packed boxes, the longest 208cm and the heaviest 37kg. If you'd rather not build it yourself, add Professional Assembly on this page before checkout. The delivery team build it in the room you choose and take the packaging away, so the bed is ready to sleep in the day it arrives.

It takes a continental single mattress, 90cm by 200cm, which is 10cm longer than a UK single. The guard rails are designed around a mattress no deeper than 15cm. That figure is a safety measurement, not a suggestion: a deeper mattress raises the sleeping surface and leaves less rail above it. The mattress isn't included, and the MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on it.

Room fit

The Kensington needs 204cm of wall, stands 116cm out from it and is 178cm high overall; leave clear floor in front of the ladder. There's 145cm between the floor and the bottom of the bed, so with a 15cm mattress the sleeping surface sits a little over 160cm from the floor. Allow about 70cm above the mattress for a younger child to sit up, and 80 to 90cm for a teenager, so look for a ceiling of around 2.3m or more, and 2.4 to 2.5m for a teenager.
