Discovery Canopy Car Bed for Kids

The Discovery Canopy is a single bed shaped like a car, with a canopy frame over the top that makes it feel like a cosy den. The bed sits low, and the sides are higher at the head, which helps keep a younger child from rolling out and makes a snug corner for bedtime stories. A small shelf at the head holds books and toys.

It's handmade to order in Belgium by Mathy by Bols, from PEFC-certified timber from sustainably managed forests, and painted in water-based, non-toxic colours. There are 26 colours to choose from, and a matching touch-up stick comes with the bed.

It's suitable from age 3. Because it's made for your order, allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. It comes ready for self-assembly.

It comes in two sizes, for a UK single (90cm by 190cm) or a small double (120cm by 190cm) mattress, on a roll-up slatted base. Add the pull-out bed and it sleeps two: the bed sits a little higher, and a second bed on castors slides out from underneath for a mattress up to 12cm deep (90 x 180cm under the single).

Room fit

The Discovery Canopy takes 228cm of wall and 100cm of floor out from the wall (130cm for the small double), a little longer than a standard single. The canopy stands 150cm high (161cm with the pull-out bed), so it suits most rooms, including under a sloping ceiling if you measure first.
