Mathy by Bols Montessori Treehouse Floor Bed

The treehouse, at floor level. The Montessori Treehouse Bed sits right on the floor, so little ones can climb in and out on their own, under the same pitched roof and cut-out windows as Mathy's raised treehouse.

When they're older, a conversion kit lifts it up into the full treehouse bed.

It's handmade to order in Belgium by Mathy by Bols, designed by François Lamazerolles, with a solid pine frame, a birch plywood ladder and MDF panels made from PEFC-certified wood from sustainably managed forests. Every bed is finished by hand in water-based lacquer that meets EN 71-3, the European toy safety standard for paint. There are 26 colours to choose from, and a matching touch-up stick comes with the bed.

It's suitable from age 3. Because it's made for your order, allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. It can't be returned as a change of mind, but faults and damage are covered in full. The roof and side panels arrive already assembled, so you join large sections rather than building from flat components.

It takes a UK single (90cm by 190cm) or small double (120cm by 190cm) mattress, depending on the size you choose. The mattress isn't included. The perforated base comes with the bed and sits about 1cm off the floor.

Room fit

The single takes 229cm of wall and comes 104cm out from it. At 125cm high it suits most rooms, including under a sloping ceiling if you measure first.
