European Double Mattresses

(4 products )

A European double mattress is 140 x 200cm, also called a continental double. It's 5cm wider and 10cm longer than a UK double (135 x 190cm), so the two aren't interchangeable. It's the size many beds made in Europe use, including some children's bunk beds, cabin beds and house beds.

Our European double mattresses

All are made in the UK and arrive rolled. At 15cm or less, they also suit raised beds whose maximum mattress depth is at least as deep as the mattress.

Will a UK double fit a European double bed?

It will sit in the frame, but it's 5cm narrower and 10cm shorter, so it leaves gaps. On a raised bed that's something to avoid. A 140 x 200cm frame needs a 140 x 200cm mattress, and a European double won't fit a UK double frame.

How do I know if my bed is a European double?

Measure the inside of the frame or check the bed's product page. If it's 140cm wide and 200cm long, it's a European double.

European double mattresses: common questions

Is a continental double the same as a European double?

Yes. Both mean 140 x 200cm.

What sheets fit a European double?

Fitted sheets made for 140 x 200cm. UK double sheets are cut for 135 x 190cm and won't fit properly.

Is a European double the same as a UK king?

No. A UK king is 150 x 200cm, 10cm wider.

Do you have deeper European double mattresses?

Our European double range is 10 to 15cm deep, made for children's and teenagers' beds. Our full-depth mattresses come in UK sizes.
