About the Ripley
The Ripley is a bunk bed that sleeps two, or three with the pull-out trundle underneath. The top bunk has high safety sides all the way round, with rounded end panels and hand-holds cut in at the top of the ladder. At 150.6cm high it's a lower build than many bunk beds, so it suits more rooms.
The trundle pulls out from under the bottom bunk for a sleepover or a visiting cousin, and it takes a full-size UK single mattress, the same size as the two bunks. When it isn't needed, it slides back under the bed.
It comes in white or grey, in laminated particleboard, with solid base boards under the mattresses. It's designed to meet BS EN 747, the British standard for bunk beds and high beds. The top bunk is for children aged 6 and over, and the recommended maximum weight is 80kg on each bunk, including the mattress.
All three beds take a standard UK single mattress, 90cm by 190cm. The top bunk's safety sides are designed around a mattress no deeper than 15cm. That figure is a safety measurement, not a suggestion: a deeper mattress raises the sleeping surface and leaves less of the sides above it. The trundle also takes a mattress up to 15cm deep. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so it can take a deeper mattress if you prefer.
The mattresses shown above are matched to this bed. They're all 15cm deep, so any of them fits the top bunk, the bottom bunk or the trundle, and the MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on it. Two children need two, three need three.
It arrives flat-packed in four boxes for self-assembly, with full instructions, and it's delivered free in 2 to 5 working days. The longest box is 200cm and the heaviest weighs 37kg, so plan on two people to carry it in. If you'd rather someone else built it, there's a link to book a local assembler below the returns policy.

Room fit
The Ripley takes 198cm of wall and comes 110cm out from it at the ladder. Leave room in front of the bed for the trundle to pull out fully, plus clear floor at the ladder. At 150.6cm high it suits most bedrooms; allow about 70cm between the top bunk's mattress and the ceiling for a younger child to sit up, or 80 to 90cm for a teenager.
Questions parents ask
Can the ladder go on either side?
No. The ladder is fixed in the position shown in the photos, so check it suits the room before you order.
Can it be split into two single beds?
No. It's built as one bunk bed and doesn't come apart into two singles.
What mattress does the trundle take?
A standard UK single, 90cm by 190cm, no deeper than 15cm. Any of the mattresses shown above fits it.
Can the bottom bunk take a deeper mattress?
Yes. The 15cm limit is there for the safety sides on the top bunk. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so a deeper mattress is fine if you'd like more comfort. A deeper mattress does take a little headroom from the space under the top bunk.
Is there a matching mid sleeper?
Yes. Prefer a mid sleeper? The Ripley Mid Sleeper is from the same range, in white or grey, with a pull-out desk, a chest of drawers and open shelves underneath.
