About the Ullswater
The Ullswater is a high sleeper that puts a desk, a wardrobe and a set of drawers underneath the bed, so one footprint does the work of a bedroom's worth of furniture. The bed sits up top, and the whole space below it is given over to study and storage.
The desk runs along the front, under the sleeping platform, with three drawers beside it for stationery and school things. At one end is a wardrobe with a single door, a hanging rail and a drawer in its base. The wardrobe and the desk build either way round: the wardrobe at the ladder end, or at the far end with the drawers next to the ladder, so you can set it up to suit the room. The ladder is angled rather than upright, with five flat steps and hand-holds cut into the top of each side.
It comes in white or mid grey. The mattress sits on a solid base made of four panels rather than slats, and the bed is designed to meet BS EN 747, the British standard for raised beds. The sleeping platform is for children aged 6 and over, with a maximum weight of 100kg.
It takes a standard UK single mattress, 90cm by 190cm, no deeper than 15cm. That depth is a safety limit rather than a suggestion: a deeper mattress raises the sleeping surface and leaves less of the safety sides above it. The three mattresses shown above are the right size and depth for this bed, and the MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on it.
It arrives flat-packed in four boxes for self-assembly, with full instructions, and it's delivered free in 2 to 5 working days. The longest box is 204.5cm and the heaviest weighs 44.6kg, and the instructions call for two people to build it. If you'd rather someone else built it, there's a link to book a local assembler below the returns policy.
Want something lower? The Ullswater Mid Sleeper is the same design at 136.6cm high, with a cupboard and an open hanging unit on castors underneath instead of a desk.

Room fit
The Ullswater takes 198cm of wall. It comes 95.6cm out from the wall, or 135.6cm at the ladder end, and you'll need room in front of it to open the wardrobe door and the drawers. At 181.3cm high it's a full-height high sleeper, so measure your ceiling before you order: allow about 70cm between the top of the mattress and the ceiling for a younger child to sit up, or 80 to 90cm for a teenager.
Questions parents ask
Can the wardrobe go at either end?
Yes. It builds two ways: with the wardrobe at the ladder end, or at the far end with the desk drawers next to the ladder. Decide before you start, as the instructions take you through each layout separately.
Will it fit my room?
It needs 198cm of wall and comes 95.6cm out from it, or 135.6cm at the ladder end. At 181.3cm high it suits rooms with a standard flat ceiling; if your ceiling is low or slopes, measure where the bed will stand.
Which mattress does it need?
A standard UK single, 90cm by 190cm, no deeper than 15cm. The MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on it.
