About the Burford
The Burford Family Bunk sleeps up to four. The bottom bunk is a full UK double, big enough for two children to share or for a parent to lie down and settle a younger one, with a standard single up top and an optional pull-out trundle underneath for sleepovers or a third child. Both bunks have a built-in shelf, so everyone has somewhere for a book, a lamp and a glass of water that isn't balanced on the guard rail.
Each bunk has a full-length shelf, 14.5cm deep, with cubby holes beneath it, so there's no bedside table to find room for. The bottom bunk sits 35cm from the floor with 88cm of headroom above the slats, enough for an adult to sit up and read a story. The trundle does two jobs: pull it out and it's a fourth bed, push it in and it's a deep drawer for bedding and toys.
Built in solid Scandinavian pine in a Cashmere finish, a soft neutral between taupe and grey, with the structural parts in solid timber and MDF only on shelf backs and panels. The wider base gives the frame extra stability. The angled ladder fits on the left or the right. If you'd rather not build it yourself, add Professional Assembly on this page before checkout. The delivery team build it in the room you choose and take the packaging away, so the bed is ready to sleep in the day it arrives.
The two bunks take different mattresses. The top bunk takes a UK single, 90cm by 190cm, and its guard rail is designed around a mattress no deeper than 15cm. That figure is a safety measurement, not a suggestion: a deeper mattress raises the sleeping surface and leaves less rail above it. The bottom bunk takes a UK double, 135cm by 190cm. It isn't raised, so it can take a deeper mattress if you prefer.
The mattresses shown above are matched to both bunks, and the MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on each. The trundle is different: it needs a mattress that slides under the bottom bunk, and the trundle mattress shown above is made for it. Two for the bunks, and a third if you have the trundle.
Key facts
- Size: 194cm long x 151cm wide (161cm with the ladder) x 186.5cm high; 241cm deep with the trundle pulled out
- Sleeps: Three, with two children sharing the double, or up to four with the optional pull-out trundle
- Mattresses: Top: UK single (90 x 190cm), maximum 15cm deep. Bottom: UK double (135 x 190cm), and it can take a deeper mattress if you prefer. Trundle: the trundle mattress shown on this page, as a standard single is too deep to fit
- Headroom: 88cm above the bottom bunk slats, or 73cm above a 15cm mattress (less any extra mattress depth). The bottom bunk base is 35cm from the floor and the top bunk base 123cm
- Storage: A full-length 14.5cm-deep shelf on each bunk, with cubby holes beneath (each 60.5cm wide x 20cm high x 14.5cm deep)
- Trundle: Optional. Works as a fourth bed or a deep drawer for bedding and toys; allow around 90cm in front of the bed to pull it out
- Ages: Top bunk for children aged 6 and over
- Recommended maximum weight: 90kg on the top bunk, 150kg on the double bottom bunk
- Material and finish: Solid Scandinavian pine (MDF only on shelf backs and panels), in a painted Cashmere finish. Made in Europe
- Ladder: Angled; fits on the left or the right
- Bases: Solid slatted bases on both bunks
- Safety: Designed to meet BS EN 747, with full-length guard rails on the top bunk
- Bed weight: 75kg, or 95kg with the trundle
- Assembly: Arrives flat-packed in 5 boxes (6 with the trundle; longest 210cm, heaviest 28kg), or add Professional Assembly on this page before checkout
- Delivery: Free, from 2 working days (4 to 14 with assembly)

Room fit
The bed takes up 194cm by 151cm of floor, or 161cm deep at the ladder. Allow around 90cm in front for the trundle to pull out fully (241cm deep in all), plus clear floor at the ladder. It stands 186.5cm high overall, so if your ceiling is low or slopes, measure where the bed will stand: allow about 70cm between the top mattress and the ceiling for a younger child to sit up, and 80 to 90cm for a teenager.
Questions parents ask
Can two children share the bottom bunk?
Yes. It's a full UK double, 135cm by 190cm, with room for two children to share or for a parent to lie down and settle a younger one at bedtime.
Can the trundle be used for storage instead of a bed?
Yes. Pushed in, it's a deep drawer for duvets, bedding and toys. Pulled out, it's a fourth bed, so allow around 90cm in front of the bed for it to open fully.
Which mattresses do I need?
A UK single (90 x 190cm) for the top bunk, no deeper than 15cm, and a UK double (135 x 190cm) for the bottom, which can be deeper if you prefer, plus the trundle mattress shown on this page if you choose the trundle. The MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on both bunks.
Can the bottom bunk take a deeper mattress?
Yes. The depth limit is there for the guard rails on the top bunk. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so a deeper mattress is fine if you'd like more comfort, which suits the double bottom bunk if an adult or older child sleeps there. A deeper mattress does take a little headroom from the space under the top bunk.
