About the Somerton
The Somerton is a heavy-duty wooden bunk bed with a simple slatted design, made for children who are growing fast and rooms that get a lot of use. The frame is knotless rubberwood, a dense hardwood, with 22mm solid pine slats, and each bunk is rated to 25 stone (158kg). That makes it a bunk bed that still works when the children are teenagers, and a sensible choice for guest rooms and holiday lets too.
It comes in a warm oak finish or white, and takes two UK single mattresses. The top bunk has full-length guard rails, and the ladder can be fitted on either side to suit the room. There's 28cm under the bottom bunk for storage boxes.
The top bunk takes a UK single, 90cm by 190cm, no deeper than 15cm, so the guard rail stays high enough above it. The bottom bunk takes a UK single too, and isn't raised, so it can take a deeper mattress if you prefer. The mattresses shown above are matched to both bunks.
The Somerton arrives flat-packed for self-assembly, with full instructions. It's a two-person build. If you'd rather someone else did it, there's a link to book a local assembler below the returns policy. Delivery is free, in 1 to 3 working days, and it comes with a 5-year manufacturer's guarantee.

Room fit
The Somerton needs 202cm of wall and 100cm out from the wall, plus room in front of the ladder. It stands 163cm high, so measure from where the top mattress will sit to the ceiling: allow about 70cm for a younger child to sit up, and 80 to 90cm for a teenager.
Questions parents ask
Is it strong enough for teenagers or adults?
Yes. Each bunk is rated to 25 stone (158kg), and the frame is solid rubberwood with 22mm solid pine slats.
What mattresses does it take?
Two UK singles, 90cm by 190cm. The top one should be no deeper than 15cm. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so it can take a deeper mattress.
Which side does the ladder go?
Either. The ladder can be fitted on the left or the right, so you can put it wherever suits the room.
Is there room for storage underneath?
Yes. There's 28cm under the bottom bunk, enough for underbed storage boxes.
