About the Alfie
The Alfie is a black metal bunk bed that sleeps two in the floor space of one single bed. It suits a shared children's room, a small bedroom where every bit of floor counts, or a guest room that sometimes needs to sleep two. When the bunk years are over, it separates into two single beds, so it carries on being useful as the children grow or the house changes. It comes with a 1-year manufacturer's guarantee.
It's 202cm long, 100cm wide and 157cm high at the head end. The top bunk has full-length guard rails, and the frame is designed to meet BS EN 747, the British standard for bunk beds. Under the bottom bunk there's about 21.7cm of clearance, which is useful space for storage.
The ladder is detachable and fits on either side, so you can set the bed up around doors and windows. The black finish suits a modern room or a more traditional one. The Alfie arrives flat-packed with clear instructions and all the fittings you need, and delivery is free in 2 to 5 working days. If you'd rather someone else did it, there's a link to book a local assembler below the returns policy.
It takes two standard UK single mattresses, 90cm by 190cm, and the top bunk is for children aged 6 and over. The mattress on the top bunk should be no deeper than 15cm. The MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on both.

Room fit
The Alfie needs 202cm of wall and reaches 100cm out from it, plus clear floor in front of the ladder on whichever side you fit it. It's 157cm high at the head end. Measure your ceiling and allow about 70cm between the top mattress and the ceiling for a younger child to sit up, and 80 to 90cm for a teenager.
Questions parents ask
Can it be split into two single beds?
Yes. The Alfie separates into two single beds, so it can carry on as two beds when the children want rooms of their own.
Can the ladder go on either side?
Yes. The ladder is detachable and fits on either side, so you can set the bed up around doors and windows.
Which mattresses do I need?
Two standard UK single mattresses, 90cm by 190cm. The MemoryDream 15 is the one we'd put on both.
Can the bottom bunk take a deeper mattress?
Yes. The 15cm limit is there for the guard rails on the top bunk. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so a deeper mattress is fine if you'd like more comfort. A deeper mattress does take a little headroom from the space under the top bunk.
