About the Little
A bunk bed for now, two proper beds later, and an optional third bed underneath for sleepovers. The Classic is made from solid hardwood, not pine: the end frames, bed rails and ladder are all hardwood, which is harder, stronger and far less prone to dents than the soft knotty pine most bunk beds are built from.
It splits into two full-size single beds, the kind an adult can sleep in, so when the children want rooms of their own, each gets a bed that lasts. Or keep one as a bed and turn the other into a daybed. Either way nothing is wasted.
Underneath there's a trundle on castors with a solid base. Put a mattress on it and it's a third bed for friends and cousins; leave it empty and it's a big drawer for bedding and toys. It rolls back under the bottom bunk when it's not needed.
At 160cm tall it's lower than many bunks, which suits rooms with sloping or lower ceilings. The ladder has wide treads and fits at either end. Painted in Pure White, with finishes tested to BS EN 71-3 for toxicity, and solid wood slats that let the mattress breathe.
You'll need two standard UK single mattresses, 90 x 190cm, with the one on top no deeper than 15cm so the guard rail stays effective. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so it can take a deeper mattress if you prefer. The trundle takes a smaller mattress, 76 x 183cm, not a standard single, so check the size before you order one. The bed is designed to meet BS EN 747, and the top bunk is for children aged 6 and over.

Room fit
The Classic takes 202cm of wall and 101cm of floor. On the trundle version, leave another 82cm clear in front of the bed so the trundle can pull out. At 160cm tall it suits rooms with sloping or lower ceilings, and standard ceilings are fine, with room for a child to sit up on the top bunk. The ladder can go at either end, so decide which before you build.

Which mattresses do I need for the bunks?

Can the bottom bunk take a deeper mattress?
Yes. The depth limit is there for the guard rails on the top bunk. The bottom bunk isn't raised, so a deeper mattress is fine if you'd like more comfort. A deeper mattress does take a little headroom from the space under the top bunk.
Can the ladder go at either end?
Yes. The ladder fits at either end, so decide which before you build.
How high does my ceiling need to be?
Standard ceilings are fine for this bed, with room for a child to sit up on the top bunk. At 160cm tall it also suits rooms with sloping or lower ceilings.
